Pout Perfection: How to achieve the perfect pout

Looking to achieve pout perfection? Celebrity makeup artist and beauty guru Armand Beasley shares tips for creating the perfect pout.

  • Make sure that lips are hydrated & smooth
  • Use foundation or concealer all over the lip
  • Blot then with a translucent powder
  • Then apply a light reflecting concealer around the outside edge of the lip line (as light enhances thus helping to make the lips look bigger)
  • With your favourite lip pencil and using light feathery strokes line your top lip from the outside in towards the Cupid’s bow, and then repeat on the other side before doing the bottom lip
  • Once the lips are lined, shade in the lips to give a good base to the colour but leave the centre part or the bottom lip bare as this will help the lips to look fuller
  • Apply your gloss
  • Blot lips with a single ply of tissue then reapply the gloss

Celebrity makeup artist Armand Beasley shares some of his favourite products

World renowned celebrity makeup artist Armand Beasley is the official Artisté brand ambassador. He has traveled the world curating signature makeup looks for some of the most popular faces in television and film, with his creations gracing catwalks and red carpets globally.

Though his kit is always evolving, there are items that he relies on time and time again. Here’s Armand Beasley’s top three favourite products…

Flash Balm Makeup Remover by Skn-rg
“This certified organic & vegan skin powerhouse have created the most effective remover that also removes eye makeup and can be used in the evening as an emergency night cream”, says Armand. “As a makeup artist, it’s so important that we look after our clients skin, this is especially useful if you do a lot of catwalk or editorial work where makeup has to be changed frequently. Great on all skin types!”

Mineral Powder Foundation SPF25 by Inika Organic

“Another certified organic brand here. This powder gives an effective spf so that you can reapply every couple of hours with out it looking cakey. A lot of mainstream spf can contain some ingredients that are not only toxic to the skin but harmful to our oceans. This brand is also good if you’re looking for a decent organic, vegan or halal approved brand. ”

Brow Tech Pencil by Smashbox
“An angled crayon on one end and a grooming gel on the other end. This product is great on sparse brows as well as unruly brows”, says Armand. “Thankfully the heavy blocky brows are out of favour and have been replaced with a more natural looking brow. There’s also a few shades available so there should be a colour suitable for every client.”

Bridal make-up hints & tips from celebrity make-up artist and beauty guru Armand Beasley

As the wedding season is well and truly underway, I thought that I might share some of my favourite bridal beauty products.

Over the years, I’ve done my fair share of bridal make-up services including actress Angela Griffin and Swarovski crystal CEO , Nadja Swarovski and to share in someone’s special day is indeed, a privilege. But if you’re a bride to be or attending a wedding then here are some tips to help.

Longevity is the key, so exfoliate your skin the night before and use a lightweight yet nourishing moisturiser on the morning of the wedding. Unless someone has exceptionally dry skin, I tend to avoid moisturising the t-zone as you will want to keep that area shine free for as long as possible.

Smashbox Photofinish Primer is great at absorbing excess oil and perfect as a base for your foundation to help it last longer.

Tip: If you’re going to do a strong look on the eyes then do your eye makeup first and then if any product falls under the eyes it’s easier to wipe away.

Charlotte Tilbury

Getting the right foundation is so important which is why for combination skins I use Charlotte Tilbury Magic Foundation, the Vitamin c helps to energise the skin and the staying power is impressive. Use fingers or a foundation brush and start at the nose and blend out.

Illamasqua Skin Base is also beautiful and glides on the skin like silk.

If you’re getting married abroad and want a base with an spf then use Inika Organic Mineral Powder Foundation £30.00 www.inikaorganic.com , it has an spf 25 and is available in 12 shades. As it’s a make-up item you can easily reapply every couple of hours to maintain the protection if you are in constant sun exposure. You will just have to add extra blush afterwards.

Urban Decay

Eye shadow palettes are readily available from most brands now, with Urban Decay and NYX leading the way. Apply your shadows by pressing the colour onto the lid rather than ‘brushing’ the colour on, as it prevents the colour from scattering everywhere.

Mascara, has to be reliable so I use either Urban Decay Perversion Mascara , £21.00, www.urbandecay.co.uk or if my bride wants a waterproof one then I use Too Faced Better Than Sex Waterproof Mascara , £19.00, wwwdebenhams.com.

Eyebrows should always compliment the look and not dominate, so never start your makeup by doing your brows first always do them once you have your eyeshadow on, so you know how intense they need to be. Choose your medium: Powder, wax, gel , crayon and pencil . Try the Smashbox Brow Tech To Go, £21.00, www.smashbox.co.uk as its waterproof pencil is slanted for precision application and comes with a clear fixing gel to tame unruly brow hairs! This is great on the grooms too!!!

Now, move on to lips. Avoid sticky lip glosses as your partner doesn’t want to end up wearing it when it comes to ‘kissing the bride’. Burt’s Bees have got a lovely range and NYX Lingerie LipGloss is great over your favourite lipstick too.

Balance your look with a hint of blush on the apples of the cheeks followed by a touch of bronzer at the temples and under the cheekbones. Inglot Freedom System Highlighter Powder, starts from £9.00, www.inglotuk.com , with shades 152 & 154 being my favourite. Sweep on top of the cheekbones and add a touch down the bridge of the nose if you want to enhance the shape. Add to the décolletage too if your gown is strapless.

It’s worth mentioning to hydrate the body especially if it’s on show so try Egyptian Magic, £29.00, www.boots.com, which is packed full of olive oil, honey beeswax and Royal Jelly. It’s very glossy on the body so take care when applying , not to get it on your dress!

Van Cleef & Arpels

Finally, apply your fragrance! I think that it’s a lovely idea to buy each other a new fragrance so it will be forever linked to your wedding day.

Beautiful fragrances for her include: Empress by Penhaligons , Danger by Roja & Olympea by Paco Rabanne

Stunning fragrances for him: Kiton classic by Kiton, Enigma by Roja & Ojaan by Parfum de Marly

Unusual fragrances to share: Halfeti by Penhaligons , Precious Oud by Van Cleef & Arpels

Of course, if you didn’t want to do your make-up yourself then why not get the rather marvellous hair AND make-up artisan stylists at Artisté to pamper you on one of the most important days of your life.
